Wilkes Women's Swimming: 2020 MAC Championships Day 4

YORK, PA – The Wilkes University women's swimming concluded the 2020 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships and its 2019-20 season Sunday at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa. Wilkes placed tenth of 13 teams with 389 team points.

The Colonels earned seven podium finishes and nine new program records over the four days of the MAC Championships.

Stevens Institute of Technology won the team title with 1,178.5 points. Wilkes was only 20 points behind FDU-Florham for eighth and 18 points behind Lycoming for ninth. The Colonels best team finish over the last six years since the program rebirth was a ninth-place finish in 2015.

400 Freestyle Relay
The team of Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove Area), Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville Area), Tricia Bartosh (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), and Alexa Crossgrove (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) earned a podium finish of eighth and a new program record in the 400 Freestyle Relay to conclude the night and the championship. The team earned 44 points with the finish. The time of 3:48.93 bested the old record set in 2016 by over three seconds. Crossgrove's leg was a 52.39 for the second fastest time of any swimmer during the relay.
 
The Colonels "B" team of Julia Rostron (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area), Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville), Kyleigh Smeltzer (York, PA/Northeastern), and Deanna Wadzin (Sugar Notch, PA/Hanover Area) placed tenth of the B teams with a time of 4:10.23 to earn Wilkes four more points.
 
1650 Freestyle
Crossgrove earned a podium finish of seventh in the 27-swimmer 1650 Freestyle to earn Wilkes 23 points. She broke her own program record by 18 seconds to clock in with a time of 18:42.00. The sophomore also broke her own program record for the 1000 Freestyle during the race with a time of 11:19.95.
 
200 Breaststroke
Detweiler earned the Colonels one point with an eighth-place finish in the C Final of the 200 Breaststroke. She placed 24th overall with a time of 2:51.69. She missed the finals cut by one place in the prelims but was alternated into the C Final when the 19th-place qualifier could not swim in the finals.
 
Prelims
In the 100 Freestyle prelims Turnitza was 27th of 40 swimmers with a 59.59.
 
Maddy Kinard (Dover, PA/Dover Area) was 27th with a 2:25.55 and Bartosh was 29th with a 2:26.77 in the 200 Backstroke prelims out of 37 participants.
 
Detweiler just missed out on the C Final as she was 25th in the prelims of the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:46.17. Rostron was 28th with a 2:52.40 and Smeltzer was 29th with a 2:54.24.
 
Turnitza, Kinard, Detweiler, and Rostron all swam times better than their seed time in their respective preliminary race.
 
Time Trial
Keating competed in a 200 IM time trial and finished with a time of 2:18.41.
