BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Wilkes University's Zach Evans (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) posted a match-high 15 kills to lead the Colonels to a 3-0 sweep of host St. Joseph's Brooklyn Tuesday night in non-conference men's volleyball action. Wilkes took the match by scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-13.

Wilkes moved to 8-6 overall after the three-set road victory. Brooklyn dropped to 2-5 overall on the year following the home defeat.

The Colonels raced out to a 10-3 lead early in the first set using two kills from Evans and another from Everett Fritz (Ringtown, PA/Hazleton Area). Wilkes continued to hold onto the advantage at 17-14 despite a rally from the hosts. A kill by Evans followed by two bad sets by Brooklyn pushed Wilkes ahead 21-16. From there it was yet another kill from Evans and two attack errors by Brooklyn that sealed the seven-point first set win.

Wilkes continued to lead throughout the second set as a two point lead early turned into a 12-7 advantage midway through the frame as a kill from Evans and back-to-back service aces by Cole Hefner (East Greenville, PA/Southern Lehigh) kept the Colonels in control. Three consecutive kills from Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) (twice) and Hefner pushed the lead to 17-11 before two more kills from Evans and one from Randall Rykiel (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Curley) finished off the set.

The third set saw the Colonels lead throughout using kills from Evans, Andrew Potter (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and Hefner to open a 22-13 lead. Hefner sealed the set and match with back-to-back service aces, his sixth and seventh on the night.
