Wilkes Wrestling Earns Senior Night Victory over King's 

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University wrestling squad welcomed the King's Monarchs for a Senior Night showdown at the Marts Center.

The Colonels (11-10, 3-0 Middle Atlantic Conference) took down the Monarchs (2-12, 0-3) 39-9.

Wilkes took a quick 10-0 lead in the match after a King's forfeit and a major decision by freshman Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) at 133-pounds.  Senior Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) piled it on at 141 pounds, with a technical fall at 4:43 to extend the lead to 15.  An 11-8 decision by junior Dylan O'Connor (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) at 149 followed up by a pin at 157 by sophomore Liam Flaherty (Needmore, PA/Southern Fulton) 1:31 into the match set the night firmly in the Colonels favor.

A tech fall at 165 put the Monarchs on the board, but freshman John Devito (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) answered with a 20-3 technical fall at 174-pounds to clinch the match for the Colonels.  Junior Moustafa Almeky (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) won by major decision 16-2 at 197 before junior Roger Horton (Towanda, Pa./Athens) finished the match with a fall at 5:21.

Wilkes athletics honored Medrow and Cole Walters (Mifflintown, PA/Juniata) on Senior Night with a ceremony prior to the night's bouts.

The Colonels hit the road for the Northeast/Mideast Futures Tournament in Allentown, Pa. this Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
