Wilkes Men's Volleyball Earns Season Sweep of Bard

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Wilkes University Colonels hit the road for their second match with their non-conference foe Bard Raptors this season.

The Colonels (10-7) held the Raptors (1-12) to -.100 hitting percentage in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-19) victory, their second 3-0 victory over the Raptors this season.

The teams bounced points back and forth in the first set until the Colonels found 6-1 and 5-1 runs at various points in the set to put the Raptors at a disadvatage they couldn't recover from in the 25-20 affair.  The Colonels set the terms of the second set with an opening 8-1 run.  The Raptors responded with a 5-1 run of their own, but the Colonels put the set entirely out of reach with a 16-3 run.

Wilkes built a 9-4 lead in the second set and kept the Raptors at bay for the remainder of the set, with the Colonels shutting out the small Raptors runs throughout the set with runs of their own to take a 25-19 set victory and to return home with a sweep.

Freshman middle hitter Konnor Pierce (Souderton, PA/Souderton) recorded a Colonels-high five blocks, which also set the mark for his single-game high for blocks.  Freshman setters Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) and Casey Shipman (Hershey, PA/Hershey) combined for 25 assists in a victorious effort, while junior libero Alberto Ramon (Allentown, PA/William Allen) had eight digs.  Junior outside hitter Andrew Potter (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) tied for the team lead in kills (eight) and led the Colonels in service aces (four).

The Colonels play one last match before taking a spring break this upcoming Thursday at home.  They play host to the Eastern Eagles at 7:00 p.m. in the Marts Center.  The series between the two sits at 1-1 after splitting a pair of matches last season.
