Pronti's Blast Lifts Wilkes Baseball in First Game at Bruggeworth Field
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University baseball team opened Bruggeworth Field with a 3-2 victory over Centenary College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Colonels are now 4-5 on the season.
Wilkes got on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Brandon Reno (Hunlock Creek, PA/Northwest Area), scoring Michael Patrizio (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery), who led off the game with a single and moved up two bases on a stolen base and wild pitch, respectively.
The Colonels pushed the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run homer from Nick Pronti (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) down the left field line that scored Patrizio, who reached on a bunt single, stole second, and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Pronti's shot was the first home run at Bruggeworth Field.
Centenary pushed its first run across in the top of the sixth with an RBI double off the fence in right field.
The Cyclones cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly.
Tony Molitoris (Hanover Twp., PA/Holy Redeemer) improved to 2-0 with the win, allowing one run on seven hits over 5.2 innings with zero walks and two strikeouts. Andrew Indzonka (New Windsor, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) earned his third save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Patrizio, Pronti, Reno, Matt Reinert (Telford, PA/Souderton), and Jack Hines (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) all had one hit for Wilkes.
The Colonels return to action on Friday when they travel to Misericordia University to open Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action at 3:30 p.m.
