READING, PA – Host Alvernia University scored nine first half goals then added eight more tallies in the second frame on way to a 17-5 non-conference victory over Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon .
 
Wilkes dropped to 2-5 overall while Alvernia improved to 2-3 on the season.
 
Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton) gave Wilkes a 1-0 lead in the first two minutes of play thanks to an unassisted goal at 28:55.
 
Alvernia scored the next three goals before a Sierra Duman (Smyrna, DE/Smyrna) unassisted strike cut the advantage to 3-2 with 12:06 left in the first half. Three more Alvernia goals pushed the lead to 6-2 before Duman notched her second of the game and eighth of the season to make the score 6-3 with 9:25 on the first half clock.
 
Three more unanswered Alvernia tallies gave the hosts a 9-3 lead at the break.
 
From there seven straight goals gave the Golden Wolves their largest lead of the game at 16-3 before Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) stopped the run with her ninth goal of the season off an assist from Brooklyn Pedana (Yatesville, PA/Pittston Area).
 
Duman notched the hat trick to close out the Wilkes scoring with 2:20 left in the second half.
 
Sarah Carlini (Collegeville, PA/Pope John Paul II) made 18 saves in the defeat for Wilkes in net.
 
Wilkes returns to the field April 1st when it begins MAC Freedom play against Eastern University at 4:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
