Wilkes Men's Tennis Earns First Dual Match Win of the Season Against Roanoke
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team earned its first dual match victory of the season when the Colonels posted a 6-3 decision over Roanoke College Monday morning at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
Wilkes improved to 1-1 overall on the season following the win while Roanoke dropped to 0-1 after its season opener.
Wilkes raced out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles play thanks to wins from
Matt Angara (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) and
Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) at No. 2 pairs (8-1) and
Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) and
Alec Levin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) at No. 3 (8-2).
Maderitz opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 straight set victory at No. 2 followed by
Mike Ellis' (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 3. Greenman clinched the match cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Connor Murphy (Denver, PA/Cocalico) closed out the scoring for Wilkes with a 6-1, 7-6 decision at No. 6 singles.
Wilkes returns to the court Wednesday with a match against St. John Fisher College at 11:00 a.m. at Chaplin Park.
