14 Runs in Two Innings Earns Wilkes Baseball Decisive Victory over Northland
FORT PIERCE, FL – The Colonels continued their spring break trip against the Northland College Lumberjacks on Tuesday.
The Colonels (1-4) went through the entire order twice in the first two innings in the 18-7 victory over the Lumberjacks (1-5).
Junior
Dominick Bayo (Swoyersville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) batted in the first run in the Colonels second at-bat with a triple, before a sacrifice fly from
Nick Pronti (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) brought Bayo home and the score to 2-0. Senior
Brandon Reno (Hunlock Creek, PA/Northwest Area) continued the onslaught with a triple, with a single from freshman
Stone Wormuth (Carbondale, PA/Carbondale) bringing him home. A single from junior
Vinny Bobbin (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain), a pitching error by the Lumberjacks, and another single from junior
Michael Patrizio (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) brought the Colonels first inning advantage to 6-0.
The Lumberjacks hit the board with an RBI single in the top of the second, but the Colonels responded with eight more runs to put the game well out of reach for Northland. Pronti doubled for his second RBI of the day to bring Bayo home once more, before a Reno single brought Pronti home to make it 8-1 Colonels. Junior
Jack Hines (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) added two more with an RBI single, before Bobbin and Bayo added RBI singles of their own to push the tally to 13-1. Reno added his third RBI of the day with a double to push the tally to 14-1 at the end of two innings
The Colonels added three more in the third, with a two-RBI single from freshman
Alexis Velez (Caguas, PR/Notre Dame) and an RBI single from junior
Rob Iacono (Wantagh, NY/MacArthur) put the Colonels up 17-1 through three. The Lumberjacks managed a five run fifth inning, and tacked on another one at the top of the sixth. Bobbin finished the scoring for both squads with a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Five Colonels had two or three hits on the day. Bobbin went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Bayo went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs. Junior
Tony Molitoris (Hanover Twp., PA/Holy Redeemer) earned the victory, pitching five innings with four strikeouts.
The Colonels are scheduled to return to action on Thursday at noon against Kenyon College in Fort Pierce, Fl. Wilkes is 2-2 against Kenyon in the live stats era.
