Wilkes Women's Tennis Soars Past Eastern Nazarene 5-4
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – After falling behind 2-1 after doubles play, the Wilkes University women's tennis team recorded wins in four of the six singles flights to take a 5-4 decision over Eastern Nazarene College on Friday morning at Chaplin Park.
Wilkes concludes its spring break trip with a 4-1 overall mark.
Eastern Nazarene took No. 1 and No. 2 doubles before
Laura Zielinski (Mt. Wolf, PA/Northeastern) and
Rachel Thomas (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) took a withdrawal win at No. 3.
In single splay, Wilkes captured wins at No. 3 through No. 6 to comeback for the one-point victory. Zielinski earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4 followed by a 6-1, 6-1 win from Thomas at No. 5.
Dagney Markle (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) was victorious at No. 6 due to a withdrawal and
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) scored a 7-6, 6-4 straight set victory at No. 3 to rounded out the Colonel scoring in the match.
Wilkes returns home from its trip to host Muhlenberg College on Saturday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
