Feese’s 51st Minute Score Lifts Wilkes Women’s Soccer over King’s

Feese's 51st Minute Score Lifts Wilkes Women's Soccer over King's

EDWARDSVILLE – Erica Feese's (State College, PA/State College Area) 51st minute goal proved to be the difference as the Wilkes University women's soccer team defeated King's College 1-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action from Bruggeworth Field on Wednesday evening.

The Colonels improved to 2-1-2 in conference play and 6-6-2 overall with the victory.

Wilkes got a big opportunity in the 27th minute when the Monarchs were called for a penalty in the box, resulting in a penalty shot. Emily Bidelspach (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) lined up for the shot, but ended up missing the net wide to the right.

That chance was the only opportunity of the first half as both teams entered halftime level at zero.

Wilkes scored the lone goal in the 51st minute when Bidelspach got a free run up the right side and crossed it to Feese, who herself was unopposed as she put a shot into the lower left corner sending the large Colonels crowd into a frenzy.

King's had its best opportunity in the 54th minute when a shot floated over goalkeeper Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) and off the crossbar.

The Monarchs earned back-to-back corner kicks in the 84th minute but the lone resulting shot was blocked, the best attempt King's would get as time expired.

Landis made three saves to earn the victory.

Wilkes outshot the Monarchs 11-9, including a seven-three advantage in shots on-goal.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday when they travel to Stevens for a 4:00 p.m. MAC Freedom contest.
