Wilkes Men's Swimming Opens Season at FDU-Florham with Tight 89-85 Defeat
MADISON, NJ – The Wilkes University men's swimming team opened its 2021-2022 season with a tight 89-85 loss at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Campus on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes closed the final score to a four-point margin by gaining 11 points with a victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay in the last event. The team of
Daniel Micozzi (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst),
Christian Mavus (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke),
Liam White (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas), and
Mason Thrush (Carlisle, PA/Big Spring) won the event with a time of 1:41.96.
The Colonels opened the season with the 200 Medley Relay team of
Shane Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta),
Jared Weyandt (Reading, PA/Exeter Township Senior),
Stephen Verosko (Gainesville, VA/Patriot), and
Keith Nissen (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) placing second with a 1:49.95 to the Devils 1:48.75.
Weyandt earned the Colonels nine points with the first victory of the season for Wilkes as he won the 50 Freestyle with a swim of 23.44. He placed second in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:08.13 for four more points.
Miller followed with a first-place finish in the 100 Butterfly to earn nine more points as he went 1:04.18.
Micozzi won the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:58.53 and he was runner-up in the 200 IM with a 2:24.75 to total 13 points.
White placed second in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 12:30.97. He also was second in the 500 Freestyle with a 6:22.10.
Verosko was second in the 200 Freestyle with a finish of 2:05.23 and was runner-up in the 100 Backstroke with a 1:09.18.
The Colonels return to the pool next Saturday when they travel to Marywood University.
