Second Half Surge Leads Wilkes Men's Soccer Past Lycoming 4-1, Extends Winning Streak to Six
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels hosted Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom newcomer Lycoming Warriors in a conference showdown at Bruggeworth Field Tuesday night.
The Colonels (9-2, 2-0) stormed past the Warriors (5-4-2, 1-1) with three second half goals after tying the game late in the first half to take home a 4-1 victory.
The teams played a tense back and forth affair in the first half, with the Warriors earning three yellow cards in the half. They struck first late with a header off of a corner kick past senior goalkeeper
Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) at the 37:23 mark. Senior midfielder
Gabriel Crowley (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) stole the momentum for the Colonels heading into the locker room, taking senior midfielder
Luke Betancourt's (Easton, PA/Easton Area) beautiful crosser from the right side of the field past the Warriors goalkeeper at the 44:29 mark. The goal was Crowley's first of his career with the Navy and Gold.

Andrew Reichard (Easton, PA/Easton Area) punched home what would be the game-winning goal at 50:11 off of a rebounded shot from first year

Xavier Guerreiro (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) teamed up with fellow first year
Herbert Ramirez (Highstown, NJ/Highstown) at the 71:21 mark to net an insurance goal with a header off of a corner kick. The Warriors would threaten a few more times in a couple of offensive stints, but never got past the stout Colonels defense again. Junior midfielder
Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) added in the exclamation point at 80:17 with a bullet off of a free kick into the right corner of the goal to send the Colonels home with a decisive victory.
Seven different Colonels had points on the evening, and the team outshot the Warriors 23-13, winning the shots on goal battle 14-7. Tone took home the victory with seven saves in a chippy affair, with the conference opponents combining for 20 fouls.
The Colonels wrap up their non-conference regular season slate with a trip out to Chester, Pa. Saturday afternoon as they look for their seventh straight victory. They play Widener University at 2:00 p.m. for the first time since 2013 in a series the Colonels lead 3-0 in the live stats era.
