Wilkes Men's Soccer Set for MAC Freedom Play-In Game at Stevens Tonight

WILKES-BARRE – The fifth-seeded Wilkes University men's soccer team is set to face fourth-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Play-In Game Monday night in Hoboken, N.J. at 7:00 p.m. This season marks the first trip for the Colonels to the conference postseason since the 2009 season.

Admission to the game is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $2 for students (with ID) and children, and free for children under six with an adult. Full information on the 2021 MAC Freedom Men's Soccer Championship can be found at the championship central page including merchandise information.

Wilkes enters the MAC Freedom Men's Soccer Championship following a terrific regular season that saw them finish tied for third in the conference standings with a 5-3-0 record, eventually earning the No. 5 seed following tiebreak rules. Wilkes went 12-6-0 during the regular season to earn its most wins since the 2006 season when the Colonels finished 12-6-1.

Stevens finished 5-3-0 in the conference as well and were slotted as the No. 4 seed. The Ducks were 10-6-1 overall including a 2-0 victory over Wilkes in Hoboken, N.J. on October 23rd. In that game the Colonels outshot the Ducks 15-13 and 7-3 on-goal while also holding a 10-4 edge in corner kicks, but it was Stevens that used goals in the 32nd and 40th minutes to earn the win.

The Colonels are led on offense by Andrew Reichard (Easton, PA/Easton Area) who ranks second in the conference with nine goals and is tied for second with 18 points. Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) is tied for seventh in the MAC Freedom with 14 points while ranking in a tie for second with six assists. He is fourth on the team with four goals and ranks fourth in the conference with three game-winning goals. Lucas Mueller (Dusseldorf, Germany/Quirinus- Gynasium) and Xavier Guerreiro (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) are tied for sixth in the league with five goals with Mueller sitting tenth with 13 points. The Wilkes offense ranks second in the MAC Freedom with 15.0 shots-per-game and third with 1.78 goals-per-game.

Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) has started all 18 games for the Colonels at goalkeeper this season and has a 12-5-0 record. He ranks fourth in the conference with a 1.08 goals-against-average while tying for second with five shutouts. He has made 53 total saves with a .757 save percentage. The Wilkes defense as a whole unit ranks fifth in the conference with 1.28 goals against-per-game.

Stevens is led on offense by Cristiano Hocken with six goals as he ranks tied for fourth in the conference. He is also tied for second with six assists and 18 points. His four game-winning goals are also tied for second. The Ducks lead the conference with 16.41 shots-per-game and are fifth with 1.65 goals-per-game.

Aedan Boriotti leads the MAC Freedom with a 0.88 goals-against-average and is tied for second with five shutouts. He has made 40 total saves with a .769 save percentage. The Stevens defense leads the conference with 0.88 goals against-per-game.

The winner of the MAC Freedom Play-In Game will move on to face No. 1 seed Arcadia (10-8-0, 6-2-0) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in a semifinal. No. 3 seed Misericordia (11-4-0, 5-3-0) will play at No. 2 seed King's (9-5-1, 6-2-0) in the other semifinal at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two semifinal winners will meet with the MAC Freedom NCAA Division III Tournament automatic qualifier spot on the line on Saturday, November 6.
