Colonels Notebook
• The Wilkes University wrestling team is set to open its home portion of the 2021-2022 season with a dual match against The College of New Jersey at 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 12 inside the Marts Center. The Colonels will also participate in the Racich Rumble Tournament hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday, November 13 starting at 9:00 a.m. Alvernia, Delaware Valley, Elizabethtown, Johns Hopkins, Messiah, New Jersey City, NYU, WPI, and York (Pa.) are among the other teams scheduled to be at the tournament.
 
• Wilkes opened its season last Saturday placing third of 15 teams at the Ned McGinley Invitational hosted by King's. Colton Babcock (Sweet Valley, PA/Northwest Area) went 4-0 in taking the 184 pound title while four others placed in the top four for the Colonels. Austin Fashouer (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) was runner-up at 125 as was Cameron Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) at 197. James Geiger (Dallas, PA/Dallas) took third place at 165 and Charles Everdale (Freeland, PA/Hazleton Area) placed fourth at 157.
 
• Three Colonels earned National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Preseason Regional Rankings. Kyle Tino (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) was ranked third in the Southeast Regional at 149, John Devito (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) was third at 174, and Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was fourth at 133.
 
• The Colonels 2021-2022 roster goes 45 deep with a class breakdown of: 9 seniors; 11 juniors; 11 sophomores; and 14 first-years.
 
• The roster features athletes from seven states and one province: Pennsylvania – 20; New Jersey – 15; New York – 3; Maryland – 2; Virginia – 2; Maine – 1; Texas – 1; Alberta – 1
 
• TCNJ has two grapplers ranked in the NWCA Preseason Individual Rankings. Jake Giordano is ranked second at 133 and Quinn Haddad is ninth at 197.
 
• The Racich Rumble Tournament will feature four more nationally ranked wrestlers in Garrett Cornell of Messiah (No. 10 at 149), Eric Hutchinson of York (No. 9 at 157), Dominick Reyes of Johns Hopkins (No. 3 at 165) ,and Izaake Zuckerman of NYU (No. 7 at 174).
