King's Big Second Half Dooms Wilkes Football in 25th Annual Mayor's Cup Game
 
WILKES-BARRE, PA – With the game tied at 7 at the half, host King's College scored 27 unanswered points over the final two quarters on way to a 34-7 victory over Wilkes University in the 25th annual Mayor's Cup game at McCarthy Stadium Saturday afternoon.
 
Wilkes concluded its season at 6-4 overall and 5-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play. King's finished 5-5 overall and 3-5 in MAC contests. Wilkes finished tied for third in the MAC narrowly missing a berth in one of the MAC/Centennial Bowl bids due to tie breakers.
 
King's opened the game with an 11-play, 54 yard drive capped off by a Brennan Robinson six yard run for the first score of the game giving the Monarchs a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.
 
Wilkes responded midway through the second quarter as senior quarterback Jose Tabora (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/St. Augustine Prep.) continued his record breaking career rushing into the end zone from 11 yards out tying the game at 7-7 following an Alex Orlando (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) extra point.
 
From there it was all King's as the Monarchs stole the momentum early in the third quarter scoring its second rushing touchdown of the day with 11:59 left in the frame. One possession later King's capitalized on a Wilkes fumble and ran in its third score of the game as Shemar Ellis trotted in from 12 yards away pushing the lead to 21-7 with 3:07 left in the third quarter.
 
Following a Colonels punt, King's notched its fourth touchdown of the game, this time through the air as Tekoah Guedes connected with Joe Herman for a 51-yard score extending the advantage to 28-7 with 13:56 left in the game.
 
The Monarchs added one more score through the air, its fifth touchdown of the game, as Guedes found Brandon Cohen down the right sideline for a five yard score.
 
Tabora closed out his career in the Navy and Gold going 5-for-14 for 41 yards through the air while rushing 12 times for 14 yards and one touchdown. Tabora finished his career with 7,653 passing yards, 622 completions and 62 touchdown passes, all school records.
 
Cole Jesmer (Dover, PA/Dover) led the Wilkes defense with 12 tackles on way to being named the team's most valuable player for the game.
 
The Colonels offense, entering the game as the league's third-best offensive attack, was limited to just four first downs and 94 yards of total offense. King's meanwhile racked up a season-high 249 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
