Four First Period Goals Push Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey to 9-3 Victory at Manhattanville
RYE, NY – The Colonels turned on the jets in their first United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest of the season as they traveled to play former Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foe Manhattanville Friday night.
The Colonels (3-0, 1-0 UCHC) pushed past the Valiants (0-2, 0-1) in a 9-3 tilt that saw the Colonels to an early 4-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Nick Godfrey (Cedar Run, NJ/) at 15:42. Flynn got help from Fea at 18:04 into the period to put home what turned out to be the eventual game-winner.
After a power-play goal from the Valiants, it only took 13 seconds for the Colonels to respond 4:22 into the period, with Cocchi notching his first goal of the evening with an assist from senior
Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/Saint Anthony's). Senior
Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI/) made it 6-1 at 7:12 into the period with an assist from senior
Danny Reidel (Wayne, NJ/). The Valiants stayed determined, with some of their veterans managing a steal and score while shorthanded at 13:46 to wrap up the scoring for the period.
The Navy and Gold would not be denied, scoring the first three goals of the period. Flynn teamed up with Fea to score a power play goal at 1:14, before Erickson teamed up with Reidel for a power play goal and Erickson's second of the night at 11:45. Dill put the final touches on the Navy and Gold's scoring at 12:13 with an assist from Coochi. The Valiants found one more power play goal at 16:04 to conclude the scoring on both sides.
Three Colonels had three-point games on the evening, with a trio of skaters also having two-goal games. Junior
Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville, NY/) had 15 saves in the win, while the two Manhattanville goaltenders combined for 32 saves in their defeat. The nine goals ties the program high, last tied on 2/6/2020 while hosting King's.
The Colonels travel to Aston, Pa. to face the Neumann Knights tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. The Navy and Gold lead the all-time series with Neumann 5-0, and won the 2020-21 version of the affair 4-1.
