Wilkes Women's Basketball Drops Low-Scoring Affair at Misericordia
DALLAS – The Wilkes University women's basketball team dropped a low-scoring Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) affair at Misericordia University by a 46-36 final on Thursday evening.
The Colonels fell to 1-5 in conference play, 1-6 overall while the Cougars improved to 3-3 in league play and 4-3 overall.
Neither team was able to gain separation through the first 20 minutes as the teams entered halftime tied at 19.
Wilkes took the lead to start the third quarter on a Katelyn Kinczel (Highland Heights, OH/Mayfield) three-pointer from Julia Marino (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township). Misericordia took a one-point lead at 25-24 with 5:48 remaining in the quarter, and finished on an 11-4 run, leading 36-28 after three.
The Cougars outscored the Colonels 10-8 over the final quarter to secure the victory.
Brenna Babcock (Sweet Valley, PA/Northwest Area) led Wilkes with a team-high six points and three rebounds. Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) added five points while five Colonels contributed four points.
Meaghan McCaffrey paced Misericordia with a game-high 13 points off the bench with eight rebounds. Melina Santacroce contributed 11 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals.
The two teams return to the hardwood tomorrow for a 7:00 p.m. MAC Freedom tilt inside the Marts Center.
