Wilkes Baseball Falls in Doubleheader at Misericordia
DALLAS, Pa. – The Wilkes University baseball team completed its Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) season-series with Misericordia University on Sunday afternoon, dropping game one 13-2 in seven innings before falling 7-3 in a nine-inning game two.
The Colonels are now 2-6 while Misericordia is 4-4.
Misericordia jumped out to a 13-0 lead in game one before Wilkes pushed two runs across in the top of the seventh.
Sawyer Kemp (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) suffered the loss in game one, allowing nine runs (six earned) on seven hits over 2.2 innings with two walks and one strikeout.
Ryan Sanderson (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) pitched the 3.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits with six walks and two strikeouts.
Bryan Nifenecker (Amityville, NY/St. Dominic) led the Colonels at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Wilkes got on the board in the top of the first in game two as
Dominick Bayo (Swoyersville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) singled to lead off the game, and following a flyout,
Nick Pronti (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) launched a two-run homer to give the Colonels the lead.
The Cougars responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning on one hit, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch. Misericordia extended its lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the second and added a run in the bottom of the third.
The Colonels cut the deficit to 6-3 in the top of the fifth when
Vinny Bobbin (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) led off with a walk and moved to second when
Jason Spezzaferra (Maywood, NJ/Hackensack) walked. Bayo moved both runners with a sacrifice bunt before
Jonah Harder (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) brought home Bobbin with a sacrifice fly.
The Cougars finished the scoring with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Jack Gordon (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) took the loss in game two, allowing five runs (four earned) on two hits with five walks.
Charles Giacometti Jr. (Dallas, PA/Dallas) surrendered one run on one hit with two walks over 1.2 innings while
Gage Coudriet (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) tossed five hitless innings, allowing one unearned run with one walk and one strikeout.
Pronti led Wilkes at the dish in game two, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI's, one run scored, and one walk.
The Colonels return to action on Saturday when they travel to Stevens for a MAC Freedom doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
