Wilkes Men's Volleyball Falls in Four Sets at Eastern
ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels men's volleyball squad traveled to face Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foe Eastern for a weeknight volleyball tilt.
The Colonels (0-7) took the first set 25-21 before dropping three in a row to fall to the Eagles (2-9) 3-1 on the evening.
In the first set, three kills from sophomore
Zach Evans (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) helped fuel an early 12-4 advantage for the Colonels. A 5-2 Eagles run cut into the advantage before a 5-0 run blew the set open to give the Navy and Gold a 19-9 lead. The Eagles cut the lead down to 21-17 after an 8-2 run, but only managed to trade points with the Colonels for the rest of the set as the Colonels took a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Colonels struggled to find any footing in the second set, falling 25-14. They hung around with the Eagles early in the third, at 7 apiece, before a 10-2 run by Eastern put the 25-13 set effectively out of reach. They rallied in the third set after an 8-2 Eastern run with a 5-1 run to cut the advantage down to 14-12. The Eagles closed out the set and match on an 11-4 run to send the Colonels home with the loss.
The Colonels out-blocked Eastern 9-4. Evans led the Colonels with 15 kills, while sophomore
Zach Shay (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) had a double-double with 13 digs and 30 assists to led the Colonels in both categories. Foster Lobb had 12 kills and 16 digs for the Eagles.
The Colonels continue to look for their first victory of the season as they welcome conference foe Widener to the Marts Center for a doubleheader on Saturday. The first serve is scheduled for noon.
