Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Closes Out Regular Season with Loss at Alvernia
READING, PA – Two first period goals proved to be the difference as host Alvernia University posted a 2-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Wilkes University Friday afternoon at Body Zone.
Wilkes finished the regular season with an 0-9 overall record while Alvernia improved to 3-3 overall on the season following the home victory.
Alvernia raced out to a 2-0 lead after one period as Lexi Hooper scored both times for the Golden Wolves. Hooper's goals came at the 2:52 and 6:28 marks respectively in the period.
Neither team found the back of the net over the final 40 minutes of the game as both goalies kept the opposing offenses at bay.
Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI) finished with 19 saves in net for Wilkes while Alvernia's Julia Beaven posted 27 saves to record the shutout.
Alvernia held a slim 41-38 shot advantage, with 27 coming on goal for the Colonels.
Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH) finished with a team-best nine faceoff wins for Wilkes.
