Bednarski's Big Day Lifts Stevens Over Wilkes Women's Lacrosse 23-6
EDWARDSVILLE – Kyra Bednarski led all scorers with 11 points on eight goals and three assists to power Stevens Institute of Technology over Wilkes University 23-6 in MAC Freedom play Saturday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field.
With the defeat Wilkes slipped to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in MAC Freedom games while Stevens improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in league contests.
Bednarski scored early and often for Stevens notching the first three goals of the game as the Ducks took a 3-0 lead four minutes into the contest.
Ashley Burkhardt (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) put Wilkes on the board at the 25:46 mark posting her second of the season thanks to an assist from
Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton).
The Stevens lead grew to 10-1 midway through the first half as seven straight goals pushed the advantage to nine.
Brooklyn Pedana (Yatesville, PA/Pittston Area) scored her first goal of the season at the 17:05 mark as Stevens continued to hold a commanding lead.
Bednarski added three more goals to end the first half as the Ducks settled for a 16-2 lead at the break.
Burkhardt notched her second goal of the game early in the second half as Wilkes continued to trail 16-3 with 27:19 remaining. Stevens went on the offensive again scoring seven unanswered goals over the next 22 minutes to take its largest lead of the game at 23-4.
Lerch added her third goal of the season and Lukowski her first of the year to close out the scoring for the Colonels in the final two minutes.
Stevens held a 37-9 shot advantage while securing 22 draw controls.
Lerch topped Wilkes with three points on one goal and two helpers while Burkhardt added two goals.
Ashley Coughlin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) finished with five saves in net.
Stevens saw nine players reach the points column in the win. Maris Daly followed Bednarski with six points on one goal and five assists while Zoe Cook and Maddie Schmidt each contributed four points on three goals and one helper.
Wilkes remains idle until Wednesday, April 7 when the Colonels host MAC Freedom foe Delaware Valley University at 6:00 p.m.
