Three-Point Barrage Sinks Men's Basketball on Senior Night
WILKES-BARRE – A 50 percent (11-for-22) night from three-point range proved to be the difference as the Wilkes University basketball team fell to visiting Delaware Valley University by a 77-63 final on senior night from the Marts Center in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) on Thursday evening.
The Colonels dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in MAC Freedom play while Delaware Valley improved to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in conference.
The Aggies started the contest on a 6-0 run through the first 2:30 on back-to-back three pointers. After Delaware Valley pushed its advantage to 8-2 just under four minutes in, Wilkes used a 23-9 run to take a 25-17 lead with 6:49 remaining until halftime.
The Aggies finished the initial 20 minutes on a 19-4 run, entering the break leading 36-29.
Delaware Valley started the second half on a 24-9 run, pushing its lead to a game-high 22 points at 60-38 with 7:44 remaining. The Colonels were unable to cut the deficit under 10 the remainder of the contest.
Wilkes was led by Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge), who finished with 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) added 10 points and three rebounds.
Dariel Medina paced the Aggies with a game-high 20 points off the bench, shooting 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. Pernel Ghee (15 points, seven rebounds), Matt Paulus (14 points, four rebounds, four assists), and Ryan Black (13 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers for Delaware Valley.
The Colonels return to the hardwood tomorrow when they travel to Delaware Valley for a 7:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game.
