No. 9 York (Pa.) Takes Season Opener from Wilkes Men's Lacrosse

YORK, PA – The Wilkes University men's lacrosse team opened its 2021 season with a 19-3 non-conference loss at No. 9 York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon at Kinsley Field.

The nationally ranked Spartans grabbed a 9-0 lead following the first quarter and scored the game's first 10 goals overall.

Junior attack Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) put the Colonels on the board with an unassisted goal at the 9:09 mark of the second quarter. York (Pa.) led 14-1 at the half.

The Colonels next goal came from junior midfielder Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) at the 11:08 mark of the fourth quarter. Senior attack/midfielder Nico Lorenzo (Howell, NJ/Howell) capped the scoring in the game with 6:48 remaining.

Wilkes was successful on 21-of-31 clears on the afternoon while York (Pa.) was 19-of-21.

Weaver led the Colonels offense with seven shots and four shots-on-goal. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) played the first half, making 11 saves and he also had a team-high four ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) then played the second half and registered eight saves. Sophomore defender Hunter Riley (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had two caused turnovers and three ground balls in the game.

Will Harnick led the Spartans with four goals and he was one of 16 players to collect at least one point for the home team. Vinny Facciponti had a game-high eight ground balls. Jack Michael and Ian Callinan combined to make five saves for York (Pa.)

Wilkes returns to action for another non-league game on Saturday, March 13 at 1:00 p.m. for its home opener against Messiah College at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
