Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Comeback Effort Falls Short at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY – The Wilkes University Colonels women's ice hockey squad traveled to Manhattanville College Saturday night seeking a road victory over their United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) foe Valiants.

The Colonels (0-4, 0-4 UCHC) fell just shy in a comeback effort against the Valiants (2-4, 2-4) 3-1 after the Valiants netted an empty net goal late.

The first period was quiet for both teams, with neither finding the net.  It didn't take long for Manhattanville to capitalize on a power play opportunity in the second, netting the first score of the evening 0:42 into the period.  They quickly added a second at 1:32, before junior forward Shauna Tubbs (Maumee, OH/) replied to put the Colonels on the board at 2:40 in the period.  Junior forward Laurenne Fraser (Salt Lake City, UT/) contributed on the assist.

Neither team found the net through the remainder of the second and for most of the third, leaving the Colonels in position to tie the game late.  The Colonels went empty net on a late power play that the Valiants capitalized on at 18:57 to effectively close the door on the Navy and Gold's hopes on the evening.

Tubbs recorded her third goal and fourth point of the season in the losing effort.  Freshman goaltender Addy Olson (Naples, FL) recorded a .931 save percentage in the loss, with Franny Gerardi earning the win at goaltender for Manhattanville.

The Colonels return to the Toyota Sportsplex next Friday night to host the Utica Pioneers.  Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. as the Colonels continue to look for their first victory of the season.
