Wilkes Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Alvernia 95-81

Donovan Breeding (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) scored a career-high 23 points but the Wilkes University men's basketball team fell 95-81 at Alvernia University Monday night in a non-conference game at Jack McCloskey Court. Junior guard

Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) both recorded double-doubles in the game.
With the loss the Colonels ended their regular season with a 4-5 overall record and at 2-4 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom. Alvernia improved to 4-1 overall and they are 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.
Neither team could gain more than a three-point lead until Breeding made good on a layup and the free throw to give Wilkes a 19-14 lead with 10:30 remaining in the first half. The Golden Wolves responded with a three by Malik Green and the two teams traded the lead nine times over the next 10 minutes with Alvernia leading 44-43 at halftime.
The lead changed hands four more times until Alvernia went ahead for good 57-55 on a layup by Robert Mullan with 15:03 left. A three-pointer by senior guard
Jack Bova (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) made the score 65-63 with 12:38 showing on the clock but the home team slowly pulled away to the ending 14-point margin at the final horn.
Breeding's career-high 23 points came in 24 minutes off the bench and on 9-for-13 shooting from the floor. Marshall's second career double-double came on 21 points and 11 rebounds. He also recorded career-highs with seven assists and three blocks. Fisher registered his first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. He added five assists.
Green paced Alvernia with 35 points including six made threes. Keon Taylor finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Jakob Kelly and Steve Pierce chipped in with 13 and 11 points respectively.
Wilkes will host FDU-Florham in a single game to conclude MAC Freedom regular season play on Monday March 15th at 7:00 p.m.
