Wilkes Softball Drops Two at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University softball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader to host Lebanon Valley College on Saturday in non-conference action. LVC scored five runs in the seventh inning to steal game one 8-7 before winning game two 6-0.

Wilkes dropped to 2-12 overall with the losses while LVC out of the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth improved to 9-9.

The Colonels wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in game one as Caylee-Mae Williams (Yuba City, CA/River Valley) reached to lead off the game by getting hit by a pitch. Marissa Pick (Watsontown, PA/Warrior Run) then walked and Erin Cabry (York, PA/Central York) singled to load the bases. Rachel Pritchard (Wilmington, DE/Concord) then drove in Williams and Pick with a single down the left field line. Emma Stauffer (Media, PA/Penncrest) then loaded the bases again when she was hit by a pitch. Cabry then scored as Sarah Gibson (Chico, CA/Pleasant Valley) reached on a fielder's choice with Pritchard out at third as Wilkes took a 3-0 lead.

The Dutchmen picked up one run in the bottom of the first after a double and then a single with Pritchard in the circle for Wilkes. LVC added another run in the second following a triple and single to make the score 3-2 after two innings.

Stauffer led off the third inning with a single for Wilkes and then moved to second on a walk by Gibson. Haley Boyd (Escalon, CA/Escalon) then pinch ran for Stauffer and stole third and then scored when Jessie Smith (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) hit into a double play. In the fifth inning Pritchard led off with a double and then Brianna Silva (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) came in to pinch run. Silva would score a single by Stauffer down the right field line to make the score 5-2 Colonels.

The Dutchmen picked up one run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly following a single and double.

Pick would single to lead off the seventh inning and then Megan Marshall (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) entered to pinch run for her. Marshall would move to third following a fielder's choice by Cabry and a groundout by Pritchard. Gibson then hit a two-out, two-run single up the middle that scored Marshall and Cabry to put Wilkes ahead 7-3.

Lebanon Valley then put together a seventh inning rally as the Dutchmen scored five runs on four hits and were helped by three Wilkes errors to slip past the Colonels 8-7. Tori Hunyara provided the walk-off single with two outs.

Rhia Aurand (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) (1-3) suffered the loss for Wilkes as she pitched the final 1.2 innings allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits. Pritchard pitched the first 5.0 innings allowing three runs (three earned) on eight hits with one strikeout in the no decision.

Prichard (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Pick (2-for-2, 2 walks), Stauffer (2-for-2, 1 RBI), and Gibson (1-for-3, 3 RBIs) led the Colonels at the plate in game one.
