Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Drops Senior Day Overtime Heartbreaker Against Albright
 
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels hosted the Albright Lions for Senior Day at the Ralston Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.
 
A late regulation goal from the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Lions (2-7) put them in position to take an 11-10 victory over the Colonels (3-7) in extra time.  The contest proved to be a chippy one, with the teams combining for 14 penalties
 
The Colonels built up a 5-1 lead through the early stretch of the first period.  Junior Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) opened the scoring at 14:35 with an unassisted shot.  The Lions responded at 12:37, but the Navy and Gold would go on to score the next four goals.  Sophomore Jacob Kudysch (Stratford, CT/Frank Scott Bunnell) took advantage of a man up opportunity at 9:41 with an assist from senior Nico Lorenzo (Howell, NJ/Howell) for goal number two, before Palladino put home his second at 9:12 for a 3-1 lead.  Palladino assisted junior Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) at 5:47 left in the period before putting together a first quarter hat trick at 4:20 with help from junior Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake).
 
Albright responded with a pair of goals late in the first frame at 3:33 and 0:26 respectively.  Senior Nico Lorenzo (Howell, NJ/Howell) stopped the bleeding at 13:05 with an assist from Palladino.  The goal was also Lorenzo's 100th point of his career with the Navy and Gold.  After Albright found the net once more to make it 6-4, Lorenzo put home his second goal of the day at 1:21 with Matthew Warns (Cutchogue, NY/Mattituck) assisting.  Albright would once again score two goals late in the period, the Colonels lead cut to 7-6 heading into half with Lions goals at :49 and :36.
 
The Lions tacked on another goal a few minutes into the third period, before Lorenzo stopped the bleeding at 10:59 with assistance from Kudysch.  Ormsby tacked on another at 7:52 to give t he Colonels a 9-7 lead heading into the fourth.  The Lions tied it up with two goals in under a minute early in the frame, before Lorenzo gave the Colonels the lead at 10-9 with 5:10 left to play with an assist from junior Kyle Sokol (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury).
 
Albright tied it up at the minute mark to send the game to overtime, before putting home the winning goal with 3:02 left in the sudden death period.

Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) played a strong second half and overtime for Wilkes as he made 13 saves. Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) played the first half, making seven saves.
 
The Lions outshot the Colonels 30-11 in the second half and overtime.   Lorenzo and Palladino each recorded five points for the Colonels, with three others having two points each.   Palladino also led the Colonels with seven ground balls.  Cole Genneken led the Lions in points (seven) and shots on goal (13), while also recording six ground balls. 
 
The Colonels look to bounce back from a close loss with another game against a MAC Commonwealth foe.  They host Lebanon Valley at the Ralston Athletic Complex this upcoming Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
