Wilkes Women's Swimming Places 13th at 2021 MAC Virtual Championships

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's swimming team placed 13th of 14 teams at the 2021 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Virtual Swimming Championships. The Colonels earned 241 team points during the 18 events that they swam Friday and Saturday at the Wyoming Valley CYC.

After the times were combined with the results from the other 13 teams competing in the conference championship event, the full results were established in the virtual format for this season. Alexa Crossgrove (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) scored the most individual points for Wilkes with 36.

Crossgrove placed ninth of 23 swimmers in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:08.22 to earn 20 team points. She placed 13th of 57 swimmers in the 50 Freestyle to earn 14 points as the sophomore finished in 26.19. Crossgrove earned two more points when she placed 23rd of 46 participants in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 59.57.

Rebekah Livermore (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth Area) tallied seven points when she placed 18th in the 200 Freestyle and Kara Foster (Brookville, PA/Brookville Jr. Sr.) earned two points in the same event. They had times of 2:27.69 and 2:39.26 respectively.

Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville) earned seven points, placing 18th in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 3:09.50.

Maddy Kinard (Dover, PA/Dover Area) placed 22nd of 33 swimmers to earn three points in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:10.11.

In the five relay events, Wilkes totaled 186 points.

The team of Kinard, Foster, Kalyn Lash (Dover, PA/Dover Area ), and Crossgrove earned 34 team points, placing 13th of 14 "A" relay teams in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:57.66.

Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove Area), Detweiler, Kinard, and Crossgrove finished the 400 Medley Relay with a 4:48.66 to place 11th of 12 "A" teams to earn 38 points.

In the 200 Medley Relay Kinard, Foster, Lash, and Crossgrove placed 11th of 13 "A" teams to earn 38 points with a time of 2:07.15.

Lash, Livermore, Foster, and Keating earned 40 team points, placing 10th of 11 "A" teams in the 800 Freestyle Relay with a time of 10:03.49.

Kinard, Livermore, Keating, and Crossgrove placed 12th of 14 "A" teams with a time of 4:09.53 to earn 36 points in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Messiah University won the team championship with 1,117 points. Widener University placed second with 898.5 points and Misericordia University was third with 875.5 points.

Marisa Krauss of Arcadia University won the MAC Swimmer of the Year Award while Messiah's Sophie Schulze was the Rookie of the Year and Katie McComb was the Coach of the Year.
