Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Concludes Season with MAC Freedom Quarterfinal Loss at Stevens
HOBOKEN, NJ – The sixth-seeded Wilkes University women's lacrosse team concluded its 2021 season on Tuesday night with a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Quarterfinal loss to third-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology at the DeBaun Athletic Complex. The Ducks secured the semifinal berth with a 21-3 victory.
Wilkes' season ends with a 2-8 overall record while Stevens improved to 8-4.
The Ducks were strong out of the gate, securing the first 11 goals of the contest.
Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton) put the Colonels on the scoreboard with 5:00 remaining in the first half when she tallied her 12th goal of the season. Lerch followed the score by winning the ensuing draw control which led to goals on back-to-back possessions for Wilkes.
Camryn Devitt (Northampton, PA/Northampton) scored with an assist from
Abby Miller (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) as the Colonels made it 11-2 with 3:59 on the first half clock. The assist was the first career point for Miller.
Stevens would collect the final two goals of the first half to lead 13-2 at the break. The Ducks would add the first five goals of the second half before Devitt collected her second goal of the game off an assist from Lerch to make the score 18-3 with 12:12 remaining in the game.
Stevens would tack on the final three goals to win 21-3. Camryn Rogers led Stevens with six goals on the evening. Kyra Bednarski led the way with nine total points on three goals and six assists.
Ashley Coughlin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) made nine saves for the Colonels and also led the team with three ground balls. Peyton Taylor played the first half in goal for Stevens to earn the win with two saves. Lauren Cunniff played the second half, making one save.
The Colonels were 7-for-12 on clears in the game including 4-for-4 in the second half. Stevens went 12-for-14 in the game. The Ducks held a 41-7 advantage in shots and 30-6 in shots-on-goal. Stevens led 19-10 in ground balls and 17-7 in draw controls.
Lerch finished the season as the team leader in points with 17 after collecting two on the night. She also led the team with 29 draw controls after collecting two in the game. Devitt led the team with 14 goals after striking twice.
Brooklyn Pedana (Yatesville, PA/Pittston Area) was the team leader with 18 ground balls on the season.
