Delaware Valley Claims 12-7 Victory over Wilkes Men's Lacrosse

DOYLESTOWN, PA – Host Delaware Valley University's strong first half helped the Aggies hold off the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team in a 12-7 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) victory Wednesday night at Lipinski Field.

With the loss Wilkes fell to 1-6 overall and to 1-4 in league games while DelVal improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the MAC Freedom.

The Aggies recorded the first two goals of the game before Nico Lorenzo (Howell, NJ/Howell) tallied the first strike for the Colonels at the 8:32 mark of the first quarter. DelVal would then go on a five-goal run to take a 7-1 lead midway through the second quarter.

Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) then scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season with an assist from Colby Opromolla (Patterson, NY/Carmel) to stop the Aggies run. DelVal would add a goal before the break to hold an 8-2 lead at halftime.

Brandon Keller scored the first two goals of the third quarter as the DelVal lead grew to a game-high eight goals. Lorenzo then scored his second of the game and seventh of the season with help off a pass from Opromolla to start a Wilkes run. Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) followed with an assist going to Weaver and Opromolla scored his third of the season as the Colonels drew within five with 3:11 left in the third.

Opromolla scored his second of the game from Weaver to close the third quarter with the Colonels trailing 11-6. Austin Seames (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) tallied his first-career goal 1:41 into the fourth with an assist from Myers as Wilkes drew to within four. However, the Colonels were unable to find the net over the remaining 13 minutes as DelVal secured the conference win.

Opromolla led Wilkes with four points on two goals and two assists while Weaver led with six shots and four shots on goal. Jamison Shaw (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) was 12-for-18 on faceoffs and led the Colonels with six ground balls. Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) made a career-high 22 saves in the loss, a number that tied the school record since the program rebirth for a single game. Cox added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
