Wilkes Women's Volleyball Falls to Neumann in Road Match
ASTON, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels continued their 2021 campaign with a trip to face the Neumann Knights.
The Colonels (7-9) dropped the match to the Knights (7-10) in 3-0 (15-25, 10-25, 12-25) fashion.
The Navy and Gold found themselves on the back foot immediately as the Knights took a 7-1 lead in the first set. They would never lead in the 25-15 first set loss and fared little better in the second set. The Knights started the third set with a 6-1 run, but the Colonels battled back to close within two after a 6-3 run. They were unable to overcome the Neumann advantage, however, as the Knights pulled away with a 10-2 run soon after to put the final set firmly out of reach.
Arian Pena had 11 kills while Regan Hickey had 10 for the Knights. Dani Smith had 22 assists and six service aces to lead both squads. The Colonels hit -.095 on the evening and had 10 kills as a team.
Hope Ousey (Exton, PA/Henderson) led Wilkes with six kills. Junior opposite hitter
Kelsey Carroll (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) led both squads with 10 digs.
The Colonels look to bounce back from their three-match losing streak as they play host to Albright College Saturday. Wilkes leads the series in the live stats era 4-2, and won the last matchup at Albright 3-0 in 2019.
