The Wilkes University field hockey team opened the 2021 season with a 7-0 defeat at York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Colonels are now 0-1 on the young season.
 
York led 1-0 after the first quarter before entering halftime with a 4-0 advantage. The Spartans followed with two goals in the third and one in the fourth.
 
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) stopped 11 shots in her first collegiate contest.
 
Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when it will travel to Ursinus for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.
