Wilkes Men's Basketball Hangs on to Hand DeSales First Conference Loss

Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) hit a jumper with just two seconds on the clock to help the Wilkes University men's basketball team defeat DeSales University, who is receiving votes in the latest d3basketball.com national poll and was previously unbeaten in conference, by a 46-44 final in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Wednesday evening,
The Colonels improved to 4-6 in league play and 6-11 overall with the victory while the Bulldogs dropped to 9-1 and 16-2 overall.
DeSales started the game on a 4-0 run before
Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) hit two free-throws to get Wilkes on the board.
The Bulldogs retook a four-point lead at 10-6 with under 14 minutes in the first half before Wilkes went on a 14-0 run, taking a 20-10 lead with 5:24 left until halftime. The Colonels maintained that advantage, entering the break with a 25-16 lead.
Wilkes' lead grew to as much as 15 at 39-24 with 10:42 left in the game before DeSales went on a 20-5 run, tying the game at 44 with 30 seconds left, setting Marshall up for his heroics at the end of the contest.
The Colonels were led by Fisher's double-double, who finished with a game-high 19 points and game-high 14 rebounds to go with three assists while Marshall added 13 points and five rebounds.
The Bulldogs were led by Dat Lambert's 11 points.
Wilkes returns to the hardwood on Sunday when it will host Arcadia University for senior day starting at 3:00 p.m.
