Wilkes Men's Swimming Opens Season Hosting Tri-Meet with Messiah and FDU-Florham
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's swimming team opened the 2022-23 season hosting Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) foes Messiah University and FDU-Florham in a double dual meet at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center on Saturday afternoon. Messiah scored a 167-27 victory over Wilkes while FDU-Florham won 102-62.

Graduate student
Shane Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and first year
Ashton Dainty (Scranton, PA/Scranton) finished fourth and fifth in the 200 Freestyle. Miller finished with a 2:05.87 and Dainty with a 2:07.27 in the six swimmer race.
Junior
Stephen Verosko (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) placed fifth of seven swimmers in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 26.12.
Miller earned a fourth place finish out of seven swimmers in the 100 Butterfly as he finished in 1:02.61. Dainty was fourth of seven swimmers in the 100 Freestyle with a 56:06.
First year
Damian Jenkins (Archbald, PA/Valley View) earned a fifth place in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:12.88 and another fifth in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:29.26.
Senior
Liam White (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) was fifth in the 500 Freestyle with a 5:59.90.
First year
Rodrigo Luis Gabriel (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) also made his collegiate debut in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke.
The Colonels 200 Freestyle Relay team of Dainty, Miller, White, and Verosko placed third with a time of 1:44.53 to close the meet.
Wilkes is back in the pool at the Wyoming Valley CYC next Saturday when the Colonels host Marywood University and Stevenson University at 1:00 p.m.
