Shiplett's Overtime Goal Lifts Wilkes Field Hockey Over Lycoming 2-1 for First MAC Freedom Win
WILLIAMSPORT, PA –
Lauren Shiplett (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) netted the game-winner 3:13 into the overtime period to lift the visiting Wilkes University field hockey team to a 2-1 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory over Lycoming College Wednesday night at UPMC Field.
Wilkes concluded its season with a 4-12 overall record and recorded its first MAC Freedom win of the season finishing 1-7 in conference play in 2022. Lycoming dropped to 2-13 overall and 0-8 in league games following the home defeat.
The Warriors struck first taking a 1-0 lead 8:56 into the first quarter as Autumn Shahan found the back of the net off an assist from Juliana McGovern.
Eleven minutes later,
Bridget Rosenfeld (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) tied the game at 1-1 as she broke through the Lycoming defense and deposited a shot past the Warriors keeper.
The game would remained tied at one through the final two quarters of play sending the teams into the extra session.
From there it was Shiplett's heroics that ended it for the Colonels as the graduate student scored unassisted to give Wilkes its first conference win of the year.
Wilkes held a 14-10 shot advantage in a tightly contested game throughout. The Colonels garnered six penalty corners to Lycoming's five attempts.
Carly Eidle (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkiomen) finished with six saves in the win in net for the Colonels. Isabella Bobe made eight stops for Lycoming.
