Wilkes Men's Soccer Set for MAC Freedom Play-In Game at FDU-Florham Tuesday
 
WILKES-BARRE – The fifth-seeded Wilkes University men's soccer team is set to face fourth-seeded FDU-Florham in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Play-In Game Tuesday night in Madison, N.J. at 7:00 p.m. This is the second consecutive season that the Colonels head into conference postseason action, with the team holding the fifth seed last season and playing in the Play-In Game last year. The last appearance before those two was the 2009 season that the Colonels saw postseason competition.

Admission to the game is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $2 for students (with ID) and children, and free for children under six with an adult. Wilkes enters the MAC Freedom Men's Soccer Championship with a 4-3-1 conference record that had them finish fifth in the conference, earning them the No.5 seed for the tournament. The Colonels had a 7-9-2 overall record heading into conference postseason.
 
FDU-Florham comes into the tournament with a 4-2-2 conference record and earned the No. 4 seed. The Devils went 9-4-4 on the season, including a 2-1 home victory over the Colonels in Madison, N.J. on Oct. 25. FDU outshot Wilkes 19-12 and had five corners compared to the Colonels 3. Xavier Guerreiro (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) notched a goal in the 72nd minute to tie the game at 1-1, but Drilon Toska drilled in his own with 11 minutes left in the game to keep FDU ahead of Wilkes and earn the victory.
 
The Colonels are led on offense by Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) who is tied for fourth in the conference with seven goals, fifth with 18 points, and tied for fourth in game-winning goals with three. Guerreiro is third on the team with three goals and tied for second with two assists along with Will Wagstaff (Allentown, PA/Parkland) and Matthew Meagher (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside). Wagstaff also had two goals on the season, while Owen Breisch (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood Area), Herbert Ramirez (Highstown, NJ/Highstown), and Zachary Dudak (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) have notched one goal apiece.
 
Nick Kinzler (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) and Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) both started nine games for the Navy and Gold. Kinzler finished with a 4-5-1 record, while Tone followed behind with a 3-4-1 goalkeeper record. Kinzler finished third in the conference in saves (.833) and goals-against-average (.947). Tone holds a .702 save percentage, earning 40 saves on the season.
 
FDU-Florham is led on the offensive side by Drilon Toska with eight goals, which is tied for first in the conference. Toska is sixth in the conference with 16 points, while tying for fourth with three game winning goals alongside fellow teammate Irfan Kermalli.
 
Tiernan Grey is fifth in the MAC Freedom with a .760 save percentage, saving 79 shots on the season. He is also tied for second in the conference with seven shutouts on the season.
 
The winner of the MAC Freedom Play-In Game will move on to face No. 1 seed Stevens Institute of Technology (14-0-2, 7-0-1) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in a semifinal match. No. 3 Lycoming College (10-4-5, 6-2-0) will play at No. 2 seed Misericordia University (11-3-4, 6-2-0) in the other semifinal on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The two semifinal winners will meet with the MAC Freedom NCAA Division III tournament automatic qualifier spot on the line on Saturday, November 5.
