Lycoming Slips by Wilkes Men's Soccer on Second Half Goal

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Lycoming College's Joey Francis broke open a tied game with the game-winning goal early in the second half as the host Warriors posted a 2-1 MAC Freedom victory over the Wilkes University men's soccer team Wednesday night at UMPC Field.

Wilkes slipped to 4-6-1overall and 1-1 in conference matches following the road defeat. Lycoming, ranked sixth in Region IV, improved to 6-1-4 overall and 2-0 in league contests.

Keller Chaovitz notched his third goal of the season just 12:27 into the match thanks to an assist from Dylan Sloann as Lycoming took a 1-0 advantage into the half.

Colin Schulmeister (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook), the reigning MAC Freedom and United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week, remained on a tear scoring his sixth goal of the year off a nice pass from Matthew Horwedel (Delanson, NY/Schalmont Senior) at the 51:52 mark of the second half.

Just three minutes later Francis found the back of the net when he headed home a corner kick which stood to be the game-winner.

The Colonels held a 15-10 shot advantage including five shots on goal. Lycoming garnered four corner kicks while Wilkes was held without a corner attempt in the match.

Zach Tone (Easton, PA/Easton Area) made four saves in net for Wilkes while Nick Wilke made four saves in the win in goal for Lycoming.

Wilkes returns to MAC Freedom play Saturday hosting No. 3 Stevens Institute of Technology at 12:00 p.m. at Bruggeworth Field.
