Strong Third Period Sends Stevenson Over Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey 5-2
REISTERTOWN, MD – Host Stevenson University scored one goal in the second period then three more in the third on way to a 5-2 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) and United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team Friday night at the Reistertown SportsPlex.
Wilkes slipped to 2-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in UCHC play following the road defeat. Stevenson improved to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in league games.
Stevenson struck first scoring 9:30 into the first period when Maddie Silverman found the back of the net. Wilkes responded later in the frame as
Abby Miller (Webster, NY/) notched her first goal of the season thanks to assist from
Rachel Morey (Buffalo, WY/) and
Julie Patterson (Trenton, NJ/) at the 13:52 mark.
The Mustangs notched the only goal in the season period taking back the advantage at 2-1 when Meghan Croyle scored event strength 3:02 into the frame.
After the lead grew to 3-1 1:02 into the third period, the Colonels kept the game close as Patterson scored off assists from
Anneke Bouma (Newcastle, ON) and
Emma Guzdek (Amherst, NY/) three minutes later.
Stevenson then secured the game with two more third period goals at the 12:34 and 18:33 mark, one on the power-play and one short-handed and also into an empty net, to clinch the home victory.
Wilkes outshot the Mustangs 31-24 with 29 coming on the Mustangs goal.
Addy Olson (Naples, FL/) finished with 15 saves in net for the Colonels.
The two teams meet again tomorrow (Saturday) to complete the MAC/UCHC series at 7:00 p.m.
