Wilkes Men's Swimming Stays 11th After Day 2 of MAC Championships

YORK, PA – The Wilkes University men's swimming team completed day two action at the 2022 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships on Friday at the Graham Aquatic Center, staying in 11th of 14 teams with 160 points.

Friday Finals

Trey Harloff (Apex, NC/Apex Friendship) made the B Final of the 100 Butterfly by placing 15th of 33 participants in the prelims during the morning session. The senior finished with a time of 55.76. Harloff upped his game in the B Final to place third in the race and 12th overall with a time of 55.48. He earned Wilkes 15 team points in the process.

Stephen Verosko (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) made the C Final of the 100 Butterfly as he was 23rd in the prelims with a season's best time of 58.17. Verosko also improved in his C Final race and he improved to 20th place overall and fourth in his race with a time of 57.43.

Liam White (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) advanced to the C Final of the 400 IM by placing 18th of 20 swimmers in the morning prelims with a time of 5:01.47 to edge out his previous season best time. In the C Final during the night session, White bettered that time by over six seconds with a 4:55.31 as he was second in the race, placing 18th overall in the event and earning seven team points.

Shane Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) did not make the finals in the 100 Butterfly but he did record a season best time of 59.33 during the preliminaries.

Jared Weyandt (Reading, PA/Exeter Township Senior) missed out on advancing to the finals of the 200 Freestyle by 0.03 seconds and one position as he swam the fastest event time of the season for the team with a 1:52.61.

Keith Nissen (Bloomsburg, PA/Central Columbia) swam a time trial in the 100 Butterfly and finished with a 59.45 to improve upon his best time of the season by over three seconds.

The Colonels 200 Freestyle Relay "A" team of Harloff, Daniel Micozzi (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst), Nissen, and Weyandt opened Friday evening's session placing 12th of 14 teams to earn 36 team points with a time of 1:32.98. The Colonels "B" team of Chris Gowarty (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Miller, White, and Verosko were 11th of 12 teams with a time of 1:42.50 to earn eight points. Both teams were nearly two seconds ahead of their seed time.

To end the night the Colonels 400 Medley Relay "A" team of Miller, White, Verosko, and Nissen placed 12th of 14 teams with a time of 4:09.03 to garner Wilkes 36 points.

The Colonels will return to the pool tomorrow for day three with the Saturday Prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. and the Finals at 6:00 p.m.
