Seventh Seeded Wilkes Men's Basketball Concludes Season with 71-61 Loss at Second Seeded Stevens in MAC Freedom Quarterfinals

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Wilkes University Colonels men's basketball program concluded their 2021-22 season with a trip to face the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks for the third time this season in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom quarterfinals.

The story was unfortunately a familiar one for the Colonels (8-17), who fell to the Ducks (14-8) in 71-61 fashion and lost for the third time this season against Stevens.

The Colonels kept pace with the Ducks until Stevens sank a three at 15:09 to take a 10-5 lead.  Stevens would double their edge with a 9-4 run to pull ahead 19-9 halfway through the frame thanks to three-pointers and free throws.  The Colonels attacked the paint to fuel a 9-1 run to cut the Stevens lead to just a two-point basket, but a Ducks three-pointer at 7:26 blunted the Navy and Gold momentum and turned into a 10-3 run for Stevens to leave them with a 30-21 lead with 3:54 left.  Stevens would lead by as many as 12 in the remaining minutes of the half, but the Colonels managed to hang around down 37-29 heading into the locker room.

Stevens would never lead by less than six for the entire second half and lead by as many as 13, keeping the Colonels at arm's reach and using their stout defense to prevent the Colonels from making any headway as they fell 71-61.  Senior Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) finished with 15 points, while sophomore Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds to earn a double-double.  Four Ducks finished as double-digit scorers, with Alec DiPietrantonio finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

With the loss the Colonels have wrapped up play for the 2021-22 season.
