No. 8 Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Bounces Back with Big Win over Arcadia
GLENSIDE, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels traveled to face United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) foe Arcadia Friday night as they looked to start a new win streak.
The Colonels (14-4, 11-2 UCHC), ranked eighth in the latest USCHO.com poll, poured it on with seven through the first two periods and blew past the first-year Knights (4-16, 2-11) in 7-0 fashion.
The Colonels netted three in the first period, with senior forward
Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/Saint Anthony's) netting two goals. His first came at 8:17 on the power play with assists from seniors
Nick Fea (Oak Ridge, NJ/) and
Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/). Senior
Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI/) scored his first at 11:14 with help from graduate
Taylor Brierley (East Grand Forks, MN) and first year
Judson McGrath (Allen, TX). Barrow put the finishing touch on the first period with a goal at 11:43 with help from senior
Dylan Kuipers (Andover, NJ/) and first year
Nick Swain (Jackson, NJ).
The Navy and Gold continued to be aggressive in the second frame, scoring 3 of their four goals in the after the 13:36 mark of the period. Senior
Tyler Dill (South Lake Tahoe, CA/) scored the first at 6:03 with help from junior
Billy Berry (Redding, CT/) and junior
Nick Godfrey (Cedar Run, NJ/). Godfrey himself scored at 13:36 with help from Dill and senior
Scott Mueller (Mount Juliet, TN/), before Fea netted his own goal at 16:03 with help from sophomore
Jimmy O'Kane (Chicago, IL/Notre Dame Prep). Erickson netted his second goal on a late power play with help from Dill and Brierley at 19:29.
Senior
Nico Pidro (Cannonsburg, PA/) and sophomore
Luc Fox (Valencia, CA/) combined for a 21-save shutout on the evening. The Colonels outshot the Knights 35-21 on goal, while the Knights won the faceoff battle 39-24. Five different Colonels netted goals on the night.
The Colonels return home tomorrow evening for a 5:00 p.m. puck drop against conference foe Lebanon Valley at the Toyota SportsPlex. The Colonels are 5-0 against the Flying Dutchmen in program history, including a 4-3 overtime victory at Annville, Pa. on 11/19/2021 earlier this season.
