Five Unanswered Runs Push Wilkes Baseball Past Drew

FORT PIERCE, FL. – The Wilkes University Colonels continued the end stretch of their Spring Break Trip as they played against the Drew Rangers Friday afternoon.

The Colonels (9-1) allowed a lone run in the first from the Rangers (1-9), but shut down the Drew hitters the rest of the way as they took home a 5-1 victory.  The victory was their second over the Rangers this season as the Navy and Gold defeated them 11-5 earlier this week on Monday.

The Rangers struck first with a fielder's choice in the first inning, but Aiden Murphy (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary) settled down into a 10 strikeout, six inning performance without allowing another run afterwards.  AJ Brosious (Laurys Station, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) continued his strong season with an RBI double in the third, before Zack Luksic (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) hit his first home run as a Colonel to center field in the fourth to give the Navy and Gold the lead for good.  Dominick Bayo (Swoyersville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) hit a single to third base in the fourth to bring in a pair of runs.  Neither team would score again until the eighth, with Connor Morgan (Dallas, PA/Lake Lehman) doubling to left to finalize the score at 5-1.

Murphy earned the victory in his start, while Sawyer Kemp (Nescopeck, PA/Berwick) pitched three innings of two-hit scoreless ball to earn a save.  Michael Patrizio (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) stole two bases for the Colonels, while Morgan and Mike Show (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) each had three hits in four at-bats, Show accounting for two runs and Morgan an RBI.

The Colonels wrap up their spring break trip with a Saturday matchup against Messiah.  First pitch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in a rematch of a 2016 affair in Grantham, Pa. the Falcons won 7-5.
