Wilkes Baseball Struggles against Misericordia Pitching, Drops Road Doubleheader

DALLAS, PA. – The Wilkes University Colonels continued their three-game Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opening series with a doubleheader at the Misericordia Cougars Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels (10-4, 0-3 MACF) struggled at the plate against the Cougars (10-6, 10-3) falling 2-1 in game one and 3-0 in game two respectively.

The Colonels took advantage of an early error by the Cougars shortstop to strike first in game one, but the Cougars would even it up in the second with a single to center field.  The teams would remain locked at one all until a critical Colonels error allowed an unearned run for Misericordia in the sixth, allowing the Cougars to take a 2-1 victory.

The Navy and Gold were blanked in game two and allowed three unearned runs to the Cougars.  Misericordia took advantage of a throwing error to score two unearned runs in the second and would take on an insurance run with a single in the sixth.  The Cougars outhit the Colonels 10-9 on the day, while the Colonels had three errors to Misericordia's one.  Aiden Murphy (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary) threw 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and one earned run in a loss in game one, while Tony Molitoris (Hanover Twp., PA/Holy Redeemer) threw a complete game with no earned runs allowed and two strikeouts in a game 2 loss.  Nick Pronti (Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) hit three for five on the day.

The Colonels return home Monday for a single game against Penn College at Bruggeworth Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in a series tied at one win apiece in the live stats era.
