Wilkes Men's Volleyball Swept by No. 5 Stevens

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes University Colonels men's volleyball squad hosted Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) rival Stevens Institute of Technology for the first time in conference play Wednesday night.

The Colonels (8-13, 0-4) found some success in the second set, but the Ducks (14-3, 3-0), ranked fifth nationally, took home a 3-0 (8-25, 18-25, 11-25) victory over the Navy and Gold.

The Ducks jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back in set one.  The Colonels hung tough in the early goings of set two, a 3-0 run giving them a 6-4 lead.  The teams tussled back and forth, but the Ducks found an 8-3 run to take a 16-12 lead.  The Colonels would never take the lead again in the set after the run, and a late 6-2 run put the set firmly in the Ducks tally.   Stevens carried their momentum into the third set, leading by an 18-3 margin.  Sophomore Paul Binner (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) found some success serving late, helping the Colonels to a 5-0 run, but ultimately the Ducks would emerge with the sweep in 25-11 fashion.

Koby Sherman had four service aces in one set played for the Ducks, who combined for 14 service aces and 34 kills with a .500 hitting percentage for the match as a squad.  Binner and sophomore Jackson Shafer (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) both had four kills, the four kills being Shafer's season high.

The Colonels host Misericordia and Widener at the Marts Center Friday evening starting at 4:00 p.m. for their last home tri-match of the season.  The Colonels are 1-8 against Misericordia and 5-2 against Widener as a program.
