Wilkes Softball Blanked by King's in Doubleheader
WILKES-BARRE, PA. – The Wilkes University Colonels made a crosstown trip to face the King's Monarchs in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.
The Colonels (10-10, 1-7 MACF) bats struggled as they fell 9-0 in five innings to the Monarchs (13-6, 5-3) in game one, before falling short in a 2-0 pitcher's duel in game two.
The bats were quiet in game one with King's getting the only run in the first three innings until the Monarchs rattled off eight runs in the fourth to take a 9-0 victory in five innings. Brandi McIntosh pitched a complete game shutout with six strikeouts in game one. The Monarchs scored two in the first inning of game two off of a sacrifice bunt and a double for the only two runs in the 2-0 affair. The Colonels had some life in the seventh with the tying runs on first and second with two outs, but the Navy and Gold couldn't extend the game.
Rhia Aurand (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) pitched a complete game for the Colonels in game two with four strikeouts and two earned runs in the loss.
The Colonels look to bounce back with a pair of games against the Scranton Royals on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex in a live stats era series the Colonels lead 9-8.
