Wilkes Women's Tennis Still Perfect in League Play After 7-2 Win Over DeSales
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team continued its perfect conference season posting a convincing 7-2 MAC Freedom win over visiting DeSales University Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex. The Colonels also celebrated Senior Day following the home victory.
Wilkes improved to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in league matches. DeSales dropped to 8-4 overall and evened its MAC Freedom mark at 3-3.
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) won No. 1 doubles 8-2 and
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) were victorious at No. 2 pairs to give the Colonels a 2-1 advantage heading into singles competition.
Wilkes wins at all but No. 1 singles clinched the five-point victory for the Colonels. Klein won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 followed by Amerise 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Greenman posted a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 4 while
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) (6-1, 6-4) and
Abby Bielecki (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) (7-6, 6-4) rounded out the Colonel winners at No. 5 and 6 singles.
Wilkes hosts RIT tomorrow (Sunday) at 1:00 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex in a non-conference matchup.
