Myers Big Night Leads Wilkes Men's Lacrosse to Senior Night Win over King's
EDWARDSVILLE – Senior
Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) registered a career-high eight points to lead the Wilkes University men's lacrosse team to an 18-5 Senior Night victory over crosstown rival King's College Wednesday night at Schmidt Stadium. The Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) victory for the Colonels came in the 2022 season finale for the team.
Wilkes improved to 5-12 overall with the win and 1-7 in the conference. King's dropped to 0-14 overall and to 0-7 in the league.
Luke Palladino (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) opened the scoring off an assist from Myers just 45 seconds into the game.
Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) unassisted,
Tyler Knappenberger (Orefield, PA/Parkland) on the man-up from Myers, and
Owen Grigas (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) unassisted closed out the first quarter scoring as Wilkes led 4-0.
An
Eric Ormsby (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) goal, followed by two from Myers and then Weaver from Knappenberger made it another 4-0 quarter for the Colonels as they led 8-0 at halftime.
The Monarchs got on the board to start the third, but
Luke Weakland (Sparks, MD/Hereford) answered that goal less than a minute later. King's scored again next but the Colonels responded with the next four goals. Palladino found the net from
Gavin Scofield (Stratford, CT/Stratford) followed by two more goals from Myers. Ormsby finished the run, scoring off an assist from Palladino. The Monarchs finished the third quarter scoring with six seconds left as the score stood 13-3 in favor of Wilkes.
Ormsby opened the fourth quarter scoring with an assist coming from
Kyle Sokol (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury). King's scored the next two goals of the fourth but Wilkes closed with the final four. Myers scored back-to-back again followed by Ormsby with his fourth of the game and Scofield put the finishing touches on the Colonels win with his second goal of the season.
Myers' eight points were tied for the fifth most in a single game in program history and his six goals were tied for the second most. He finished with 34 goals on the season. Ormsby's four goals brought his team-leading tally to 38 for the season as he also finished with a team-high 62 points.
Ryan Lasher (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) earned the win with six saves in the first half. He finished his senior season with a program single season record of 241 saves.
Daniel Cox (Stratford, CT/Stratford) made three saves in the second half.
Jake Chittem (Stratford, CT/Stratford) had a game-high five ground balls.
Colby Opromolla (Patterson, NY/Carmel) and
Brendan Keegan (Middletown, NY/Pine Bush) each had a game-high three caused turnovers as Opromolla tied the program single-season record of 24 caused turnovers.
Henry O'Connor (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) was strong for the Colonels on the face-off as he won 10 of his 12 chances.
Scofield, Myers, Grigas, Sokol, Ormsby, Cox, Palladino, Lasher, Chittem, and Weaver were recognized before the game with a Senior Night ceremony.
