Wilkes Women's Lacrosse Concludes 2022 Season at King's

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Sophomore Maleah Cobham (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) recorded her first career hat trick in the season finale for the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team, an 11-6 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) loss at crosstown rival King's College Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

Wilkes finished the 2022 season with a 1-7 record in the MAC Freedom and a 3-12 overall record. King's improved to 2-5 in the league and 3-11 overall.

The Monarchs opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the game before Breanne Fulling (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) scored on a free-position shot with 10:17 left in the first quarter. King's reclaimed the lead with 2:48 on the first quarter clock to lead 2-1 after the first 15 minutes.

Allyson Joly (Lincoln, RI/The Tilton School) tied the score 1:06 into the second quarter and Cobham gave Wilkes its first lead with a man-down goal with 11:58 on the second quarter clock, assisted by Domenica Lerch (Northampton, PA/Northampton). King's tied the score just over two minutes later but Cobham on the free position put the Colonels back ahead 4-3 with 7:15 on the clock. A Monarchs goal was answered 13 seconds later at the 3:47 mark by Cobham as Lerch assisted after winning the draw control. The goal led Wilkes into halftime with the 5-4 lead.

King's scored the first three goals of the third quarter to take the lead for good. Fulling added her second goal of the game off an assist from Cobham to make the score 7-6 with 2:42 left in the third but the Monarchs closed the game with the final four goals including all three in the fourth quarter to win 11-6.

Cobham led Wilkes with four points on the night. Ashley Coughlin (Northampton, PA/Northampton) made nine saves in goal for the Colonels and had a team-high six ground balls. Laura Bayzick (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton Area) followed with five ground balls. Jessica White (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) led Wilkes with four caused turnovers while Lerch had two assists, three draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

Emily Sims led King's with five goals while Alli Lindsay had three goals and two assists. Sidney Bush earned the win for the Monarchs with 12 saves and a game-high eight ground balls.

The game was nearly even in shots with King's edging Wilkes 29-28. Wilkes led 32-23 in ground balls and were 22-of-27 on clears compared to the Monarchs 19-for-27 showing. King's led 14-7 in draw controls and converted 4-of-11 free positions chances compared to the Colonels mark of 2-for-10.
