Wilkes Men's Tennis Finishes MAC Freedom Play with 6-3 Victory at Arcadia
GLENSIDE, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team clinched the third seed in next week's MAC Freedom Tournament after posting a 6-3 victory at host Arcadia University Saturday afternoon in both teams' regular season finale.
Wilkes improved to 9-7 overall and finished MAC Freedom play with a 4-2 mark.
The Colonels wasted little time taking a commanding 3-0 lead after sweep all three doubles flights.
Cole Gibson (Pinecrest, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and
Nick Putney (Norfolk, MA/King Phillip Regional) earned an 8-2 victory at No. 1 to complete the doubles sweep prior to 8-0 wins from No. 2 pair
John Toussaint (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) and
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) and No. 3 duo
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, MD/Elkton) and
Rodniel Senson (Houston, TX/William B. Travis).
Gibson took his No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-1 before wins from Rathe 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 and
Drew Fiedler (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.
Wilkes, the third seed, will travel to second seed FDU-Florham Wednesday for a semifinal match in Madison, NJ. The two teams met this past week with the Colonels edging the Devils 5-4.
