Wilkes Women's Tennis Secures Home Match in MAC Freedom Tournament after 9-0 Win at Arcadia
GLENSIDE, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team secured a home match in next week's MAC Freedom Tournament after blanking host Arcadia University 9-0 in both teams' MAC Freedom finale on Saturday afternoon.
Wilkes concludes the regular season with a 9-6 overall record and 6-1 in league matches.
The Colonels stormed out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and never looked back taking all six singles flights in straight-set fashion.
Tea Amerise (Mountain Top, PA/Holy Redeemer) and
Zoe Klein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) won 8-0 at No. 1 pairs followed by
Dasha Yakhnis (Verona, NJ/Verona) and
Alexa Cieri (Matawan, NJ/St. John Vianney) at 8-0 at No. 2.
Cassidy Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and
Kaitlyn O'Neil (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) secured Wilkes' third doubles win posting an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
Yakhnis was the first Colonels to finish in singles play winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Amerise followed with another 6-0, 6-0 victory while Klein won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 to clinch the match. Cieri (6-0, 6-0), Greenman (6-0, 6-1) and
Abby Bielecki (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) (6-0, 6-2) rounded out the Wilkes winners at No. 5, 4 and 6 respectively.
Wilkes, the second seed, will host third seed Misericordia University Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex in one of the semifinal matches of the MAC Freedom Championship Tournament. The Colonels edged the Cougars 5-4 two weeks ago in the squads lone meeting in Dallas, Pa.
